Give your writing some focused attention at Xtreme Critique Day!Xtreme Critique Day

Spend the day giving your writing some focused attention while you interact with peers and professionals in an intimate, supportive environment.

You’ll participate in two 3-hour critiquing sessions led by professional writers. Each group will have six or fewer participants, and you’ll receive valuable feedback from published authors and other attendees.

When: Sorry, no XCD is currently scheduled

Where: Borders North Hills in the Northway Mall. We’ll meet in the music & video section of the store.

Leaders: Judith Burnett Schneider, Julie Long and Cindy Closkey

How much: $85 (includes lunch)

Schedule

9:00: registration and settling in
9:30 — 12:30: Critique Session 1
12:30: Lunch from Borders Café (included in the price)
2:00 — 5:00: Critique Session 2
5:30: Happy hour (user pays) at Willow, 634 Camp Horne Road

Format

You can choose to read chapters from your novel or nonfiction manuscript, multiple essays or short stories, or your synopsis and agent query letter. Plan to share for eight minutes (about 8-10 pages, double-spaced in 12-pt font). This allows for sufficient time to exchange concrete feedback on what you share. Remember that you’ll also benefit from reading and critiquing others’ work when it’s their turn.

How to Prepare

We recommend bringing eight copies of your work for the session leaders and other attendees to follow along while you read. This invites written feedback on your work in addition to the verbal comments and suggestions you’ll receive.
