Glimmer Train's Summer Contests

Glimmer Train Press is now accepting submissions for their summer Fiction Open and Very Short Fiction competitions. Deadlines are July 15 and July 31, respectively. They welcome the work of established and upcoming writers and you can easily submit online. The reading fee is$20 per story, but the prizes are great.

The Fiction Open is open to all themes and story lengths up to 20,000 words. First place wins $2,000, publication in Glimmer Train Stories, 20 copis of that issue and a one-year subscription. Second wins $1,000; third place $600.

Stories submitted to the Very Short Fiction Award should not exceed 3,000 words. First places wins $1,200, publication in Glimmer Train Stories and 20 copies of that issue. Second place wins $500; third place $300.

The site lists a wonderful quote to keep in mind, which I'll share here in shortened form:

"Fearless is an interesting word, for in fact, in being fearless you are not without fear, rather you are withstanding fear. You are moving forward despite it." — Meredith Pignon

Go for it!
