Be a Part of History: Vote!

It's no news that today is a day that will go down in history. In the past, the highest voter turnout tallied around 90% or so (in PA) when Nixon ran against Kennedy before I was born. Why not play a part in breaking that record?

Don't pass up this opportunity to be a part of history. Experience democracy at work, firsthand. If you have no patience for standing in a long line, do what I did. Pack a paperback novel and a couple of snacks, stop for your favorite brew (it'll help the economy) and grab a spot in line. It's your civic duty, your right--an American privilege.

This moment in history can be yours to share for years to come.

Vote today! Vote now! You might be surprised at how great it makes you feel!

P.S. Have an interesting voting story? Why not share it below? (Caution: Candidate-bashing comments will not be approved.) Thanks!

Funny thing is that I must have timed it just right because I brought coffee and a book to read and was in and out in 20 minutes!

What a great day in history, regardless of who one voted for!

(But thank goodness the campaigning is over. Now let's get on with it -- and the work!)

We were in and out of our polling place in no time, surprisingly. My three-year-old, James, was mad that they weren't giving out doughnuts this time, so he took it out on the voting machine. First he rattled the plastic wings on either side of the screen that are intended for privacy; then he started yanking on the cord, making the whole machine shake. We nearly made headlines: "Hundreds of West View voters furious when votes are erased by rambunctious preschooler". Oh, James!!

Good luck with NaNo. The best I can do right now is about an hour every other week!

Susan, you were lucky! I waited an hour. It was a nice way, though, to catch up with neighbors and friends!

Beth, what a funny story! It's a good thing James didn't pull the plug! I'm glad you're still making time to write. You should submit WISH to agents. It's an excellent YA, on par with any published novel I've read! Good luck!

The only reason that we had to wait to vote was because a couple of the voting machines were being a bit temperamental. So we waited maybe 10 minutes, total.

The interesting part of the "we" is that . . . I voted with my 18-year-old son, Ryan, and it was an amazing feeling to vote with your child for the first time!

Kelly, how exciting it is that this most recent election was your son's first voting experience! I'm sure it's one he'll never forget! And what a great example for him to see you voting, too, so he can carry on the practice for years to come!

Ryan's high school jazz band played for a Hillary Clinton rally and he got to meet her and shake her hand -- plus she personally handed him a couple of campaign buttons.

Then, just recently, he got to hear John McCain at a rally at the community college he attends.

I told him that doesn't usually happen!
