Perfect Your Blog & Your Brand at Boot Camp PGH
One of the big debates in the writing world today is whether or not writers benefit from using MySpace. No matter where you stand on that question, you know, like it or not, you should at least be blogging. And whether you're just getting your blog off the ground or you're looking to increase traffic to your site, the upcoming Boot Camp PGH is a can't-miss for us all!
Here are the details:
When: Saturday, April 21, 2007
Where: The Art Institutes of Pittsburgh, 420 Boulevard of the Allies, 15239
How Much: Absolutely Free!!
Another buzz word in the industry is "brand." In answer to the question, What is your brand?, many writers respond, "Huh?" Established authors know that your brand is the whole package, it's you -- what you write, what you look like, how you dress, who you are. These all need to blend together to sell your product, your books and your voice.
And speaking of voice, presentations at the conference cover everything from Finding Your Voice or Photoblogging, to Podcasting and Building Your Brand. Like it or not, writers, this is part of what we must do. First, we need to write a great book, article, essay, or poem. And then, yes, we need to sell it. And all of the above techniques will help us do so.
So quit sitting around wishing you could hire a publicist to write your blog and sell your work. The presenters at Boot Camp PGH will show you how easy it is to get started and/or to keep pushing forward! There are even hands-on labs where they'll walk you through the steps to get started using MySpace or Twitter and much, much more. And throughout the day, you'll be able to speak one-on-one with these experienced individuals.
As of right now, 116 people are registered. You don't want them to know more than you do, right? So hop on over to the Boot Camp PGH site and register, now. The best part is, it's free. Note: This is NOT like one of those free financial seminars where they give you a doughnut and try to get you to invest in something. Nope, I know several of the speakers. They're just caring, sharing, knowledgeable people who want to help, really!
I'll be at the event on Saturday, and I hope you will too!

Judy, thanks so much for the brilliant promotion. I'm glad you mentioned that this event isn't a "FREE and wouldn't you like to buy a condo" situation. No, it's free in the truest sense -- we've even got sponsors ponying up for a light breakfast and lunch.
And the goal is to help newcomers to new media -- blogging, podcasting, social networking -- get their footing. We'll have a similar two-day event in August aimed at people of all experience levels, and we're hoping with this BootCamp to cover a lot of the introductory material so that at BootCamp we can look at advanced techniques.
It's going to be practical and fun. I look forward to seeing you there -- and as many of your readers as possible!

Hey Judy, I would love to go Saturday, but it's the kick off for T-ball and my husband'll be out of town so there's no way. Jake can't play, but he can walk in the parade so that's where I'll be. Hopefully you'll share some of the best nuggets available????? I really wish I could go. This is exactly what I need right now. Too bad life intervenes.

I enjoyed attending BootCampPGH! It was uplifting to be among such progressive thinkers and to hear about everyone's tips, techniques, and successes! Thanks to all the speakers and sponsors for offering their time and expertise! I especially love my green guru.com mug!
Julie, Jennifer, and Laura, I so valued our time together, hashing over old ideas and generating new ones. We were the perfect example, that day, of how energy and creativity feed off of each other. I think we solved the world's problems on Saturday (if not, then at least we put a dent in our immediate writing-related ones).
It was also great to meet many new people including Emilee, Bill, and Lindsay, to name a few. May our paths cross again, soon (possibly at the Xtreme Critique Weekend)!
Best wishes to all the current bloggers I met and to those who are setting up new blog sites. Keep in mind what's most important isn't how your blog looks or to whom you've linked, it's what you have to say. So be true to yourself and just go say it! Good luck!
