Fat Plum: Juicy solutions for today's writers

About Us

Judith Burnett Schneider

Judith Burnett SchneiderWhen Judy was young, she couldn’t decide whether to be a scientist or a writer. So she did both. She studied chemistry and philosophy. She went to work as a research organic chemist for a Fortune 500 company, and published in technical journals and reference books printed in multiple languages. Eventually, the author in her won out and Judy left chemistry to focus on a full-time publishing career. Oddly, this scientist turned writer has written everything but science fiction.

Judy’s latest release is a co-authored book, The Frantic Woman’s Guide to Life (Warner Books), a month-by-month guide designed to help today’s busy women bring order to their chaotic lives. The Frantic Woman's Guide to LifeThe book has garnered great reviews from Booklist and Library Journal and has been featured in USA Today, Family Circle, Real Simple, Allure and Writers Digest magazines.

Judy’s personal essays have appeared in Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul, in the internationally syndicated “Chicken Soup for the Soul” newspaper column, as well as in newspapers and magazines across the country — and even in high school achievement tests in Japan. She has written children’s fiction and poetry for Turtle Magazine and BabyBug, and sold captions for greeting cards.

Early on, Judy vowed to share her knowledge with other writers. She has taught writing courses online at WritersCollege.com, where her course on personal essays has ranked among the “TOP 50 Great Classes,” and at the Community College of Allegheny County. Judy lectures regionally and at international writing conferences, including the annual conference for the International Women’s Writing Guild in New York. She is also the author of Write Well & Sell: Changing Life’s Simple Stories into Sales and co-author of Self-Publishing Made Simple.

Judy is a spotlight speaker for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Campaign and serves on the board of directors at George Junior Republic, a nonprofit, residential treatment facility for delinquent boys in PA.

With all that, plus a husband and three kids, you wouldn’t think she’d have time for anything else. You’re right — almost: She is currently working on a suspense novel.
